Simple plans?

We could sit here and talk all day about the Mavs, I know.  I’d rather not – it gives me tired-head.  Besides, I’d rather focus my mental and emotional attention on the Metroplex sports team that is kicking @ss right now.

But I do feel that I have to say something – an epitaph if you will.  As disappointing as it was to watch people like Josh and Stack, Kidd and even Dirk screw up, it was also revealing.  Would anyone dispute the fact that this team was not playing to its potential?  Now, I don’t know if its maximum potential as currently constructed is second-round, third-round or simply seven games against the Hornets.  But the point is – the team underperformed. Post-Mortem

It’s true that the Mavericks have shot horribly, seemed listless, and been victimized by the no-shows of Josh Howard and Jerry Stackhouse (though I have argued that counting on Stack in this series was folly anyway). Why, then, would I be so hard on Avery Johnson? Once again – Avery makes in-game decisions that I can make no sense of. Last night’s Game 4 was no exception.

I read the Daily Dime on ESPN this morning, where most of the talk focused on Howard’s woes and the Hornets’ double-team of Nowitzki, effectively daring any other Mav to beat them. No one stepped up. What I’d like to focus on is a rather mind-bending sequence to begin the second quarter. (Read the article)

Goodbye, Avery

More later on the freaking egg the Mavericks are laying right now, but Avery’s fingerprints are all over this one.

Mavs 97, Hornets 87

Avery must read this blog. JET gets the start, scores 22, and plays some D on Chris Paul, who maybe is human after all. Stack plays only 7 minutes, sits out the whole second half, and is not happy about it. Result = Mavs roll.

Tim McMahon beat me to it on the DMN blog…could Josh Howard have picked a worse time to bare his soul to Michael Irvin? What could he have possibly hoped to gain by doing this? Two points for honesty, I suppose. The MFFL is not happy, likely because a) Josh removed all doubt that he has a screw loose, and b) (McMahon’s point) who will take him off the Mavs’ hands now via trade?

I really can’t believe that PHX is down 3-0. The Suns are winding down, and I have to wonder if D’Antoni is at the end of his rope after this debacle – could the door be open for a Nash-Dirk reunion in Dallas in ‘09-’10? What if the Mavs re-signed Kidd, sold Nash on ending his career with his best buddy, and had a two-headed point guard? Could it possibly happen? Would it even be desirable?

Hear that?

That whistling sound – you hear it?  Sounds like surgical steel moving very quickly through the muggy Texas air…

That whistling is the guillotine dropping on Ron Washington’s head.  It will happen within 72 hours.  Write that down.

From the “what the…” department

Item 1: Jenna Bush may not vote for John McCain.

Item 2: Just learned two things: a) Dwyane Wade apparently divorced his wife this past fall due to various celebrity “other” women, and b) none of those “other” women worked out for him, so he is now dating the freshly-divorced…Star Jones?!? HAHAHAHAHA!

My choice for next head coach of the Mavericks

Come on down, Del Harris!

Oh, and Mike Fisher picks Avery apart further in his blog entry, along with proposing an interesting change to the starting lineup.
