Acie is a Hawk!

With the 11th pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, the Atlanta Hawks choose Acie Law IV, point guard from Texas A&M University. He was the first senior taken in the draft. Congratulations Acie!

Mark Jackson had this to say:

“I really like the pick, and the reason why is because you’re talking about what teams say a guy can’t do. Well this young man is an absolute gamer, won the award for the best point guard in the land, this is a team that needed a point guard and they took the best guy available at that position, a correct choice finally for the Atlanta Hawks. No longer will we see a midget running the point guard position for ‘em.”

If you take out the first and last sentence, it’s almost a good, coherent thought. Is it really that hard to find quality analysts?

Well… Nevermind.

Anthony Jones has apparently changed his mind about committing to Texas A&M:

Less than 24 hours after committing to Texas A&M, five-star prospect Anthony Jones is back on the board and an integral member of his family is taking a lead role in his recruitment.

I’m not sure what to think at the moment, but hopefully he will see a great team take the court in the fall, and will re-commit.

Great Job Coach Turgeon!

anthonyjones7_6100.JPGCongratulations to Aggie basketball coach Mark Turgeon on his first commit for the 2008 season, Anthony Jones, a 6′9″ power forward from Houston, Texas:

Texas A&M head coach Mark Turgeon reeled in his first commit for the class of 2008, and needess to say it’s a big one. That first commit is a five-star prospect, a top 20 player in the nation and the No. 1 player in the Lone Star state according to Rivals.com.

Way to pick up where Billy Gillispie left off. Its great to see that Aggie Basketball is still headed in the right direction! Now if we could just get Coach Fran to land a 5 star football recruit…

Will Pacman Ever Play Again?

pacman_jones.jpgAccording to SportsIllustrated.com, Police want to question Pacman Jones about a shooting this morning.

Jones, his entourage and three other people got into a fight, apparently over a woman, at a club in DeKalb County around 4 a.m., Officer Ariel Toledo said.

After everyone involved left the club — the three people in one car, and Jones and his entourage in three other cars — someone in Jones’ entourage shot at the car, and the others returned fire, Toledo said.

Why Are Baseball Managers So Insane?

182300.jpegFreelance Doug pointed me to the following video demonstrating just how insane baseball managers can get.

In the video, Mississippi Braves manager Phillip Wellman goes on quite possibly the craziest tirade I have ever seen. It includes covering the entire plate with dirt, then drawing a larger home plate around it, pulling up both 2nd and 3rd base, using the rosin bag as a hand grenade, and finally, blowing kisses to the crowd.
